Nothing is what it seems…

Fen, a street-smart, 21-year-old orphan with anxiety issues, thinks she has her life under control. Then a gorgeous stranger tries to kill her. WTF?

A mysterious boy, Luke, and his sexy older brother, Kaio, come to her rescue, whisking her off to a glamorous Caribbean island and supposed safety. But the island’s atmosphere simmers with unnerving undercurrents. The brothers have secrets and Fen has questions. Who are they? How did they know she was in trouble? And what aren’t they telling her?

When Luke takes her to a magical underwater city, she discovers answers more enchanting than she could have imagined. But the enchantment has dark edges. Fen finds herself caught in tides of romance, mystery, and political intrigue, with her life and the fate of all humanity on the line. If she hopes to stay afloat, she’ll have to find courage she never knew she had.

A Lonely Magic contains no explicit sexual scenes or graphic violence, but Fen’s not shy about swearing when she’s under stress – and she’s under plenty of stress.

A Lonely Magic eBook S J Wynde

A fun and engaging book by a unique author, A Lonely Magic is (no surprise) a delightful read. It's rare these days that I'll stay up into the night and read obsessively, but I did for this one.

A Lonely Magic tells Fen's story. She is a street smart orphan with a past she thinks she knows all about. She's wrong. Perhaps dead wrong. She's a different character from Wynde's other heroines, and it shows a lot of strength that the author can switch to a new voice so readily.

Fen is abrasive and independent, a former street kid who's pulled herself up by her bootstraps. She's tough, but fragile, is independent, but makes mistakes. She is in all the best ways a strong female character, which is a real treasure in today's literary world.

The other characters are just as refreshing and engaging. Each has his or her own life to them, they all act according to their motives, and wow are there some big motives in this book. But above all, they each feel real. They have flaws that feel like real flaws, be it overconfidence, panic attacks, or even inconvenient senses of honor.

But beyond the characters, the world of the Sia Mara is a beautiful tapestry to run around in. It's a place full of magic, though the magic fades, and stuffed with intrigues as old as humanity itself, populated by a people that might look like us, but most definitely aren't. I loved the city and its' people.

And the end... no spoilers here, but at the end I realized I couldn't wait for the sequel.

Excellent book. Get a copy and get stuck in it.

A Lonely Magic eBook S J Wynde Reviews

This looks to be the start of a new series that could end up being the Harry Potter for adults (the main character does drop the F-bomb). I can't wait to see where Sarah Wynde takes this story. The book is very enjoyable to read and the writing just flows. It is written in the third person, but uses a clever style that makes it feel like a first person story. I could easily relate to the main character, Fen, as she continues to learn so many things she didn't know about her world and herself. While this is clearly a fantasy, the author uses elements from myth and legend and science fiction to craft a tale that is believable in a sense. I did think the story ended a bit abruptly, so I am hoping that this is the beginning of a new series that I know will be eagerly anticipated by those who have read this.
I liked this, although it is definitely not my usual genre. This was more of a fantasy to me than a mystery and I usually don't do fantasy type novels. However, I loved the Tassamara series, so I decided to give it a try. It kept me reading mostly because I definitely liked Fen and wanted to find out what happened. It is well worth the read.
Sarah Wynde creates worlds. The worlds she creates are places I enjoy being in. And all I have to do to get there, is read. This book creates an underwater world that is beautiful, complex and an entertaining place to spend some hours.
Sarah fills her worlds that I want to visit with people I want to meet. Fen is a young girl who moves me. The nice, safe hidey-hole she has created for herself to barely survive in, gets turned upside down and the strength she has always had inside surfaces just when she needs it.
I also met 2 likable brothers, their sister who is a fascinating healer and a relative Fen didn't know she had and still doesn't entirely trust.
Can't wait for the next book to come out so that I can spend more time with Fen in her world.
Although I don't usually give a 5 star rating to a cliffhanger, A Lonely Magic is my first exception.
Wynde has captured my heart with her Tassamara novels (no cliffhangers there),and now I find myself itching to read the next novel in this series.
She has fully developed characters, only 2-3 typos (which I'm sure autocorrect made), and describes each scene so beautifully, that it's easy to envision.
My only regret...not getting enough sleep until I finish each of her books!
“A Lonely Magic” is a terrific, incredibly imaginative fantasy novel by the author of the delightful Tassamarra series. When I began reading, I expected engaging characters, and I was not disappointed.

The protagonist, Fen, is smart, feisty, and funny. There are two love interests, Kaio and his brother Luken, and as other reviewers have said, you’ll have to wait for the sequel to find out if Fen chooses one or the other – or neither. Kaio is intriguing and a little bit dangerous and Luken is boy-next-door sweet and earnest. Gaelith – wise kind, and maternal – is a lovely counterpoint to Fen’s headlong nature. And the villain, Malik, is satisfyingly villainous.

The plot is intricate and absorbing, weaving the history and setting (the magical, underwater city of Sia Mara) together to create a satisfying story line full of plot twists and surprises. This is a book that will keep you guessing until the end and beyond. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!
Apart from Harry Potter, I am not a fan of books about magic. But this is a fairly engaging tale, not precisely a romance (though it has potential to be one) and I enjoyed it. It's clearly intended to be the first of a series. While I'm not sure I'd follow an entire series, I did like this story. Fen, a street-smart young woman living hand-to-mouth, is almost assassinated. She is rescued at the last minute by a young man. The next thing she knows, her entire world, from thrift store clothing held together by safety pins, to bare kitchen cupboards, is turned upside down. Fen keeps trying to make sense of what she sees, but the scenarios that occur to her keep changing. First it appears that she's fallen into the hands of an eccentric billionaire, then she starts to wonder about the supernatural. The truth is even more bizarre. The ending is a cliff hanger, so be prepared. Not every thread is knotted off and there's plenty of room for more installments.
